The death has been communicated of of Peter Readman, Founder and Chairman of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. He confounded the orchestra with his wife Victoria in 1981 after hearing Herbert von Karajan conduct the European Community Youth Orchestra in Salzburg. The COE proved a remarkable incubator for talent from all parts of the continent. It says: ‘For all of us in the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Peter was far more than a Chairman. He had a rare combination of formidable intellect, strong principles and genuine kindness.
