The artist Christina Gascoigne, who wih her late husband Bamber Gascoigne gave their inherited estate of West Horsley Place to found Grange Park Opera, died today at her home in Richmond at the age of 88. She met Bamber at Cambridge and they married in 1965. He became a TV personality as presenter of University Ghallenge. She worked in ceramics, silks and photography. Grange Park chief Wasfi Kani says: ‘On 2 May 2015 a group from Grange Park Opera visited Bamber and Christina to ask whether we could build an opera house in their garden. ‘Christina was immediately enthusiastic: “ Bamber, imagine a beautiful bird has landed in our garden…” ‘And Bamber gave a resounding: “ Yes, indeed you must do that.”’ image: Grange Park/Richard Lewisohn The post
