Just in: Berlin Philharmonic instals principal flute
The orchestra issued confirmation today that the Icelander Stefán Ragnar Höskuldsson has passed his probationary period and is now installed as principal flute of the Berliner Philharmoniker.
Höskuldsson, 50, was principal flute of the Metropolitan Opera orchestra in New York from 2008 to 2016 and of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 2015 to 2025.
He studied at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Peter Lloyd.
The Berlin seat he inherits has been volatile for a decade.
